Bakersfield PD arrest man suspected of vandalizing downtown business

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police arrested a man for vandalism to a business Tuesday in downtown Bakersfield.

Officers were called to Tru Skin and Body in the 1900 block of 19th Street on Sept. 3 at around 7:30 a.m. for a report of suspicious circumstances.

Upon arrival, officers found the front window to the business was shattered. Based on surveillance footage, officers began searching the area for the suspect seen in the video.

Shavon Smith, 28, was detained in the 1400 block of 20th Street after officers say he matched the description of the vandalism suspect seen in the surveillance video. According to BPD, Smith later confessed to the vandalism.

Officials said Smith was charged with felony vandalism and other charges.
