Lloyd Street murder suspect appears in court

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man arrested after a deadly shooting on Lloyd Street made his first court appearance Wednesday.

A deputy public defender entered not guilty pleas on behalf of 31-year-old Rodrigo Lara . He’s charged with first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition, and gang conspiracy.

Judge Michael G. Bush ordered Lara held without bail. He’s due back in court Sept. 13.

On Aug. 25, police went to the 400 block of Lloyd Street — north of Brundage Lane and east of Union Avenue — after a ShotSpotter activation registered eight gunshots. They found a man in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene . The coroner’s office has not released his name.

Lara was arrested Aug. 30. Court records show he has prior convictions for drug and gun offenses.
