Two popular Syracuse diners vandalized within days of each other

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) –It’s like the Buried Acorn incident all over again. Businesses having their windows smashed in by vandals.

Except this time, on opposite ends of Syracuse.

VIDEO: Local Syracuse brewery burglarized, community steps up to help with aftermath

During the morning of Aug. 29, around 9 a.m. Syracuse Police were sent to The Gem Diner for a burglary investigation.

Officers spoke with someone who said that when they arrived at the diner, he saw the windows being “smashed out.”

The witness added that the ATM was ripped out of the floor, along with the charity tip jar that had a few hundred dollars in it.

Over on Westcott Street, just days later on Sept. 3, a similar situation took place at Rise N’ Shine Diner.

The restaurant took to Instagram to post the damage and their frustrations. Saying in part, “Thank goodness no one was hurt and nothing was taken.”

The diner remained open after the incident. They can be seen with a boarded-up window.
