A new locally owned acai bowl shop is preparing to launch in Miami Beach . Dubbed Miami Bowls , the new acai spot has been serving up specialty acai and pitaya bowls as a mobile vendor, and now it’s preparing to launch its first brick-and-mortar at 1659 James Ave , near the intersection with Lincoln Road.
Behind Miami Bowls is University of Miami student and local entrepreneur Alex Macias .
“We’re going to go by the Hawaiian way of making [acai bowls], where we have more generous portions,” Macias explained to What Now on Wednesday. “The acai is not scooped out a bucket like at some places; it’s hand crafted. All our ingredients will be organic; our juices and milks are all non-dairy; and everything is gluten free.”
Macias says owning a business has been the plan from beginning.
“I’ve always had the entrepreneurial mindset. I always knew I wanted to own a business and create something bigger than myself,” Macias said, adding that contrasting work experiences like dog walking and barista work at Starbucks were useful preparation for opening Miami Bowls.
