Heat brings poor air quality to Southern California

Southern California is in the midst of a brutal heat wave, and as often happens, the high temperatures are accompanied by poor air quality.

On Thursday, portions of Los Angeles and the Inland Empire are expected to see air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, and by 9:30 a.m., that level was already detected in Jurupa Valley and in South Los Angeles.

Air pollution is expected to hit unhealthy levels in many parts of Southern California this week, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District .

Those conditions are expected to remain in place until 8 p.m. Friday.

Hot temperatures often put more pollutants in the air, especially ozone, which the Los Angeles Times notes is the primary pollutant during the summertime months.
