ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Roadways in St. Petersburg and around Tampa Bay became impassible due to flooding during Wednesday evening’s storms.
St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to 111 emergency calls between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. that were mostly related to the weather conditions.
According to the fire department, most of the calls were related to vehicles stranded in floodwaters, followed by downed power lines and fire alarms.
“Our crews don’t slow down when the rain picks up,” Ashlie Handy, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Public Information Officer, said in a statement. “The flooding created some additional challenges, but St. Pete firefighters know how to handle a summer storm.”
Crews reported zero storm-related injuries on Wednesday evening.
