Offering an escape from this late summer heatwave, cooling centers are available near Woodburn.
The following locations will be open to cool off at Thursday, Sept. 5:
ARCHES in Woodburn, located at 1560 Hardcastle Ave., will be open from 1-6 p.m.ARCHES Day Center, located at 615 Commercial Street N.E. in Salem, is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.Santiam Outreach Community Center, located at 280 N.E. Santiam Blvd in Mill City, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The cooling shelters are open amid an excessive heat warning for the region in effect from noon Thursday to 10 p.m. Friday, with dangerously hot conditions of around 100 degrees forecasted.
