JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – While James Island senior specialist Gray Dangerfield may get mistaken for a full back or linebacker.
“At a couple college campuses some of these college coaches are like no way that’s the actual kicker and then I kick the ball.”
There is no mistaken he has a cannon for a leg.
“We don’t even need to take the kickoff return team out there because he’s going to put it in the endzone. He’s a talent, that’s the scouting report, he’s punting back up, back up, get back. He’s going to kick it above the lights and drop it down,” said James Island Head Coach Jamar McKoy.
Gray has built up his power from lifting year-round.
Starting to take kicking seriously in tenth grade, he was something serious last Friday at Hilton Head.
“i had a kickoff through the uprights, a 50-yard punt, a kickoff off the cross bar, a 75-yard kickoff, and then a 30-yard field goal,” proclaimed Gray.
Nothing Dangerfield does in a game or practice surprises coach McKoy anymore, as it’s become common place.
