New NC Folk Festival director adds dose of energy ahead of 10th anniversary weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Is there anything Jodee Ruppel can’t do?

I’ve got to say it’s been a while since I’ve met a person whose energy you feel when she walks into a room. In fact, energy is what she’s carrying into her new job as executive director and chief development officer of the North Carolina Folk Festival.

The festival kicks off its three-day, 10th-anniversary and will run from Sept. 6 to Sept. 9 in downtown Greensboro.

“So two things made this job super appealing,” she told me during a recent interview in the courtyard that separates the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center (where her office is) and the city’s Church Street parking deck.

“One, my love for Greensboro. This is my chosen city, and I really love it here. And I think everyone should move here because it’s so amazing. I can sing its praises all day. And then this festival is such a part of what makes Greensboro unique.”

More on the festival in a few paragraphs. But first, Greensboro really is her “chosen” city.
