What’s On Suncoast? 9.6 – 9.13

The Suncoast Post asks, “What’s On, Suncoast?” Here are some ideas for the area this week from September 6 – 13, 2024. Women’s voices are the focus of this fifth-annual festival here on the Suncoast of new works from noted and emerging playwrights. Attendees can enjoy staged reading of three plays, all penned by women: Lia Romeo’s A Nice Motherly Person, a darkly comic parable on motherhood and gendered roles in society; Baylee Shlichtman’s In the Mouth of the Beast, in which a cave-diving father-daughter teams enters a treacherous, reality-bending chasm in an attempt to secure a world-changing new energy source; and Sarah Elizabeth Grace’s I’m Saving You a Seat, in which a sober young woman, her ex-stepfather, and the stepfather’s much-younger new girlfriend enter into an unusual relationship in a small Hudson Valley Town. The festival also includes a keynote speech from established playwright Lauren Gunderson, a kickoff party and an audience roundtable. It runs Sept. 4-8 at Urbanite Theatre.
