Campagna Center hosting storytime event to celebrate diversity, community

ALEXANDRIA, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Campagna Center, an Alexandria nonprofit, will host a free storytime event on Sunday, Sept. 15, to showcase the diverse stories of area community members.

The event will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at 418 South Washington St. in Alexandria.

It will feature family storytime with author Hanh Bui, a poetry reading from the City of Alexandria poet laureate Zeina Azzam, a mini-poetry workshop, free refreshments and more.

Each family will also leave with a package of free books for their home library.

The storytime is part of “Alexandria’s Welcoming Week,” a national annual campaign that “celebrates the work in communities to become welcoming places for all, including immigrants and newcomers,” according to ACT for Alexandria .

ACT for Alexandria, a local community foundation that collaborates with nonprofits, awarded $20,000 in grants for activities to be carried out by various groups during welcome week.
