Stolen firearms from vehicles decrease in Lubbock, authorities still warn owners to store guns properly

LUBBOCK, Texas — Local and federal authorities announced during a press conference Thursday they made eight arrests in the “Project Safe Neighborhoods takedown” in Lubbock. The main topic of conversation was stolen weapons from vehicles.

12 firearms were seized during the operation, one gun had a machine gun conversion device, another was stolen and another had potentially been used in a previous crime.

With multiple of the seized firearms being stolen, Chief Seth Herman, with Lubbock Police, pleaded for gun owners to store their guns responsibly, so they don’t end up in the wrong hands.

“The Lubbock Police Department believes wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment, we encourage our citizens to defend themselves, their families, protect their homes and their property,” Herman said. “But with that right comes an invaluable and necessary responsibility to ensure that those weapons are secured properly and not left in their vehicles at night.”
