Fort Collins’ newest food cart stolen from parking lot

The owners of Fort Collins’ newest late-night food cart are scrambling after their cart and trailer were reportedly stolen this week.

The Goulash Pirate food cart, which debuted in Old Town Fort Collins in late August, disappeared from the parking lot it was being stored in sometime between the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 1, and late Thursday night, according to Philipp Steffgen, who operates the cart with his wife, Zanny Steffgen.

The couple discovered the cart and its trailer were gone from their rented parking space when they went to pick it up around 10 p.m. Thursday, Philipp said. Goulash Pirate typically serves its vegan and beef goulash in front of Philippe French Bistro, 133 S. College Ave., on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

“I was expecting very good business this weekend,” Philipp said, noting that Goulash Pirate has received good feedback on Facebook and recent traction from posts on Fort Collins’ subreddit and a story by the Coloradoan.

“I cooked a lot of goulash yesterday and a lot of meat, which unfortunately I won’t be able to use,” Philipp said.
