Residents Urged to Take Precautions Against Heat Illness Through Saturday Evening
HANFORD — Issued by the National Weather Service at 7:49 PM PDT on September 6, 2024.
Heat Advisory: High Temperatures and Warm Nights Pose Heat Risks
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hanford has issued a Heat Advisory for much of central California, including areas such as Bakersfield, Fresno, Visalia, Merced, Los Banos, and surrounding communities. The advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT Saturday, with daytime highs expected to range from 102 to 107°F. Overnight lows are predicted to stay in the upper 70s, offering minimal relief from the heat and creating a moderate to major heat risk.
High Temperatures and Minimal Relief at Night
Residents are advised to be aware of the increased risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly with overnight temperatures remaining uncomfortably warm. The sustained heat, coupled with limited cooling during the night, can exacerbate health issues, especially among vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children, and those without access to air conditioning.
