Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup apple juice or water
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Prepare the Apples: Wash and core the apples, leaving about 1/2 inch at the bottom to hold the filling. If you don’t have an apple core, use a knife and spoon to remove the core.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, chopped nuts, and raisins or dried cranberries if using. Mix well.
- Fill the Apples: Spoon the filling mixture into the hollowed-out center of each apple, pressing it down gently to pack it in.
- Add Butter and Liquid: Place the apples in the prepared baking dish. Top each apple with a few small pieces of butter. Pour the apple juice or water into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Bake: Bake the apples for 35-45 minutes, or until they are tender and the filling is bubbly. If the apples start to brown too quickly, cover them loosely with aluminum foil.
- Serve: Allow the baked apples to cool slightly before serving. They are delicious on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
