A consumer health and safety advisory and mandatory recall was issued for a particular type of cannabis flower sold across New Mexico because of excessive pesticide levels.
The product was produced and sold by WH Agriculture, LLC, which does business as Maggie’s Farm, and was distributed to retailers between March 6 and Aug. 1, according to the New Mexico Cannabis Control Division.
Various dispensaries carried the product in New Mexico, with the majority in Albuquerque and a few others in Sunland Park, Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Las Lunas, Las Vegas and Belen.
The products tested positive for pyrethrins, a mixture of six chemicals that are toxic to insects, according to the National Pesticide Information Center .
When exposed to pyrethrins, people have reported some of the same symptoms associated with asthma, including wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing and irritation of the airways.
No health-related complaints have been reported, but people are advised to destroy or return the product to the retailer for proper disposal.
