FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – With conference play kicking off on Friday, Bishop Luers knocked off a shorthanded Northrop squad in a 40-6 win in your Highlight Zone Game of the Week.
Playing without starting quarterback David Callison, Northrop struggled to move the ball on offense with a rotating cast of quarterbacks.
The Knights found the end zone first after scoring off a takeaway in the first quarter. Daryea Williams scored from seven yards out to give the Knights a 7-0 lead. Northrop gave up a safety after a snap sailed over the Bruins’ punter. Then the Knights scored another touchdown to take a 16-0 lead to halftime.
Dee Hogue broke the game open with another touchdown run in the second quarter, giving Bishop Luers a 23-0 lead.
Northrop’s lone score of the night came in the third quarter. Colton Downes connected with Jayden Philips-Brown. The catch was a simultaneously caught by a Bishop Luers defender, but officials ruled a Northrop touchdown on the field.
Bishop Luers begins SAC “B” division play against Wayne next Friday. Meanwhile, Northrop returns home to host Homestead in SAC “A” division play.
