Brophy routs Regis Jesuit behind Bastian Vanden Bosch’s big defensive plays

Bastian Vanden Bosch set the tone defensively and his twin brother Case finished off Regis Jesuit with three rushing touchdowns in Phoenix Brophy Prep’s 44-0 rout Friday night at Phoenix Central High.

With Bastian making big plays in the Aurora, Colorado school’s backfield much of the game, Brophy clung to a 7-0 lead midway through the third quarter, before starting quarterback Rylan Umphrey took off.

His 70-yard run set up a 10-yard scoring pass to Daylen Sharper to make it 14-0.

The next time Brophy (2-0) got the ball back, Umphrey hit Devin Fitzgerald for a 42-yard scoring play and the rout was on late in the third quarter.

A safety made it 23-0, and then Case Vanden Bosch took over at quarterback in the final quarter, and he ran wild. He had runs of 7, 9 and then capped off a drive with a 1-yard score. Later, he scored on runs of 15 and 5 yards, as Regis Jesuit suffered its second straight shutout loss to open the season. The Raiders lost last week 17-0 to Valor Christian.

Brophy’s offense got going after Bastian Vanden Bosch sacked Regis Jesuit freshman quarterback Luke Rubley for a 2-yard loss. A 36-yard field goal try was blocked. After the Broncos took over,  Umphrey took off around end for a long run before finally being dragged down at the Raiders’ 10.
