Another View: African American Students and Literacy

If you are an avid reader, you know there is nothing better than getting lost in a good book. But, sadly there are too many children and particularly African American kids who do not know the joy of reading because they cannot read or are not strong readers. Now that school is back in session, we want to give the tools necessary to help a youngster in your world improve their reading skills. On this week’s Another View, Kimberly Brown McCray, a District reading Specialist with Portsmouth Public Schools and, Veronica Jones, a retired Portsmouth Public School teacher who now spends her time working with her grandchildren and other young people to ensure they enjoy the joy of reading.
