CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program celebrated its 50th anniversary with a lively community event hosted by Benton County WIC on August 31, 2024. This special event coincided with World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, bringing families, WIC staff, and partner organizations together to honor the program’s legacy of support.
The celebration, held at the Corvallis Community Center, aimed to promote breast/chestfeeding and shine a spotlight on WIC’s crucial role in providing supplemental foods, healthcare referrals, and nutrition education to low-income families in the region. Families in attendance enjoyed free food, music, prizes, and the chance to engage with local organizations at a resource fair.
“This event highlights the importance of making sure our community’s children, infants, and families have access to nutrition and health resources. We are building a healthier community for generations to come,” said Barbara Christianson, Benton County WIC Program Manager.
