KDPS: Man facing charges after investigators find gun, cocaine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Kalamazoo say a man is facing multiple felony charges after an investigation into drug sales yielded crack cocaine and a loaded gun.

Investigators say they made contact with the suspect, a 34-year-old man, Friday on the 1300 block of Portage Street near Washington Avenue. As officers tried to arrest him on an outstanding warrant, the man “discarded illegal drugs and resisted arrest,” according to a release from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

He was eventually taken into custody and no officers were hurt, the release says. When investigators searched the car he was driving, they found a loaded gun, according to KDPS.

Later that day, investigators say they carried out a search warrant on the 1100 block of Hotop Avenue near Riverview Drive.

In total, they seized “distribution amounts of crack cocaine,” as well as powder cocaine, a gun, drug paraphernalia and suspected profits of drug sales, according to the release.

The man, whose name was not released Saturday, was arrested and jailed. KDPS says he will face multiple felony charges.
