Whole cantaloupes sold in five states including Virginia recalled

WRIC 8 News reported that whole cantaloupes sold in five states are being recalled because they could potentially be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Those five are:

  1. Michigan
  2. Missouri
  3. Ohio
  4. Texas
  5. Virginia

The recall alert posted on the FDA website on September 6, 2024 stated that Eagle Produce LLC, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, initiated the recall of 224 cases of whole cantaloupes sold under the brand name “KANDY” after routine testing by the State of Michigan revealed the salmonella might be in the fruit that was sold.

The recall alert stated:

“Healthy people may experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and produce more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”

The FDA said that no one has reported an illness due to the recalled cantaloupe.

Here is what consumers should check for:
