Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Possible Across Parts of South Texas & Florida Panhandle

South Texas May Be Impacted by Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm

09/08/24 8:49pm ET

Good morning everyone. We continue to watch our stalled out cold front interact with tropical moisture along parts of the Florida panhandle and north Florida. We’ll have another round of heavy showers and thunderstorms today, some of which could be locally severe.

While we do not expect widespread severe weather, look for locally strong winds torrential rain, frequent lightning, and the possibility for a few waterspouts in near-shore areas. As of now, the primary risk remains flooding rain.

We are also watching some circulation developing south of Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, and we are beginning to see some banding of energy form. This will bring bands of strong to severe thunderstorms into the south Texas area over the course of the next few days.

Tropical development is likely at this time. At minimum, we will most likely have a tropical depression on our hands, but further development is possible. We’ll be watching this closely as the time frame looks on this and landfall/near-landfall could occur some time between tomorrow evening and Thursday evening.
