Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce describes his thought process on controversial decision

The Las Vegas Raiders lost a very winnable game to the Los Angeles Chargers, which saw their defense dominate nearly the entire game while the offense struggled to score more than one touchdown. The offense was getting bullied, as Gardner Minshew didn’t play that well, and the offensive line didn’t either. The run game was also virtually non-existent.

But, one of the things that stood out the most as one of the potential mistakes the Raiders made, was punting inside of enemy territory on a fourth and one with very little time left in the fourth quarter.

Obviously, the Chargers would go on to score after a big run play by J.K. Dobbins got them down in the red zone. So, in hindsight, the decision to punt looks bad, and, fans aren’t very happy with it.

“We considered going for it, it was a long one [one yard],” Antonio Pierce said after the game. “We got stopped there [earlier]. Punter [A.J. Cole] had done a good job of pinning those guys back, I think we had three punts inside the 20. The defense was the strength the most part of the game. We wanted to keep the, back there with our three timeouts.”
