Salvation Army announces new after-school program at annual Rally Day

SPOKANE, Wash. — Children and their families came out for a fun-filled day at the Spokane Salvation Army’s annual Rally Day on Sunday.

The event kicked-off the start of the school year with a free carnival, complete with snow cones, dunk tanks and a bounce castle.

The Rally Day is not only a fun event for kids, but also an opportunity for their families to learn more about the Salvation Army’s after-school programs.

New this year is the Salvation Army’s Troops Program, which is similar to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, but with a Salvation Army twist.

“Troops is the Salvation Army’s version of Boy and Girl Scouts. The character-building club is where kids learn life skills, important character skills that will allow them to learn to engage with the world around them and teach them life skills as they grow and develop,” said Salvation Army Captain David Cain.

Captain Cain said the programs are free and parents don’t need to worry about transportation.

“We’ll pick up from local elementary schools and then bring kids back to the Salvation Army where they can engage in homework clubs but also a lot of fun learning experiences,” he said.
