Eagles, Cowboys Remain Top Contenders in NFC East

The more things change, the more things stay the same in the NFL, especially the NFC East.

After a week of football for all four teams, the division race already seems like a foregone conclusion: it’s the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles competing neck and neck for it.

The rest of the division? Not so much.

Both the Washington Commanders and New York Giants suffered blowout losses. Washington was dealt a 37-20 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road while the Giants were blown out 28-6 to the Minnesota Vikings at home.

Neither losses were seen as pretty for either team.

On the other end, the Cowboys came through one of the more impressive wins of the week with a 33-17 finish over the Cleveland Browns. In that game, it took over a half of football for the Browns to record their second first down of the game, while the Cowboys forced two turnovers.

Dallas’ offense wasn’t overly impressive – they recorded only 265 yards of offense and were 4-14 on third down.

Regardless, their impressive defense and special teams made Week 1’s contest in Cleveland into a blowout.
