Concerns raised about cell phone bans after Georgia school shooting

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – A stricter ban on phones is causing concerns for families, children and even some educators. They say they want to know what happens in the case of an emergency.

This school year, phone ban rules have doubled down harder than in the past. With the last school shooting not even a week ago, what does the public think of this?

An educator from Virginia said on Monday, September 9, 2024 she is scared for the safety of children and educators around the country.

“What are the things we can start to do to make this better, to make going to school safer, to make people feel safer,” said Layla Jones, a teacher from Virginia.

Governor Justice has also backed the stricter phone rules in West Virginia schools. Phone bans are enforced in schools to limit distractions, improve mental health, and create a better school experience.
