Missouri secretary of state ‘decertifies’ Amendment 3 petition

MISSOURI – Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft sent an order on Monday “decertifying” the Amendment 3 petition set to appear on the Missouri ballot in November.

According to the letter sent on Monday, Ashcroft said his office originally certified the petition for inclusion on the ballot while considering whether the proposal satisfied the requirements for public attention.

He further stated that after reviewing the circuit court’s judgment of the petition, Ashcroft determined the petition was “deficient” and further decertified the petition from the November 5 ballot.

Ashcroft’s letter was sent just one day before the Missouri Supreme Court decides on Tuesday whether the measure can be removed from the November ballot.
