Lightning fires ignite and expand in Idaho’s national forests; Wapiti fire containment improves

South and Central Idaho continue to be impacted by numerous lightning-caused wildfires, including one that grew by more than 20,000 acres in a matter of hours. Boise National Forest’s Lava fire is among the state’s fastest growing. Around midday Sunday, the U.S. Forest Service’s Boise National Forest Facebook page reported that the lightning-caused blaze had grown to 2,493 acres in six days, with 191 personnel assigned to fight the fire.
