Here are six strangely named Colorado towns – named after jokes, founders, and even the towns’ unique characteristics.

1. Last Chance

This small town got its ominous name as it is the only place to get provisions for many miles. Last Chance is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 36 and State Highway 71 in northeastern Colorado.

2. Hygiene

Located in northwest Longmont near McIntosh Lake, this small, unincorporated town got its name because it was home to a sanitarium in the 1800s that helped patients overcome tuberculosis. According to Visit Longmont, Reverend Jacob S. Flory moved to Hygiene in the late 1870s and opened the Hygienic House, a three-story sanitarium to help people overcome tuberculosis.

3. Bedrock

This historic ghost town ‘s name comes from the solid rock foundation the town’s general store and post office were built on. According to Uncover Colorado , Bedrock used to have a population of 500 people, saloons, and two hotels. Now the town has a population of about 50 people.
