High School Notebook: Harper Creek volleyball gets a measure of revenge at Cereal City

BATTLE CREEK – The annual Cereal City Volleyball Tournament meant Harper Creek had a chance to get a trophy and some revenge.

The Beavers were able to get both.

Harper Creek came away with the championship trophy after winning the 16-team Cereal City Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. Just as sweet, was that the Beavers were able to do it by beating rival Lakeview along the way. Harper Creek, ranked No. 2 in the state in the preseason, was upset by Lakeview in their first meeting in the first week of the season.

“I’m so proud of each of these girls,” said Harper Creek coach Terra King. “It was a fantastic day and a true team effort. Not only did we have some standout offensive plays, but our defense was on point as well. We’ve been working hard on different skills over the past few weeks, and it was great to see everything come together today.

“It was also fun to compete against so many teams, especially getting another shot at Lakeview. The girls were excited for that chance, and I’m proud of how they competed against a strong Lakeview squad.”
