Scouts to hold annual Sept. 11 salute ceremony in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Scouting America’s Michigan Crossroads Council will mark the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with its annual Community Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute on Wednesday.

The event will run from sunrise to sunset across several locations in Michigan.

The day’s main event will be held at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids. There, the community will gather for a daylong Scout Salute. Color guards from the Grand Rapids Police and Fire Departments will raise and lower the flag at sunrise (7:19 a.m.) and sunset (7:59 p.m.). A performance by the Salvation Army Band is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by a program at 6 p.m. featuring speakers including Donald Shepard, CEO of Scouting America Michigan Crossroads Council, and Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police. The day will end with echo taps at 7:59 p.m.
