Lottery win: Remembering birthdays and anniversaries comes in handy

Dates are important. Remembering birthdays and anniversaries can be helpful for having a peaceful home life.

And for John Connolly Jr., remembering them was lucrative.

The Weymouth man was playing Massachusetts State Lottery ‘s Keno game at The Brew House , at 703 Granite St. in Braintree, on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when he converted a series of birthdays and anniversaries into a $120,000 payday.

All nine of the numbers Connolly played on his Keno ticket were among those selected. Because he had opted to spend an extra dollar to activate the game’s multiplier, Connolly’s $40,000 score turned into a $120,000 windfall with the game’s 3X multiplier ball popped up.

Connolly cashed in his lucky ticket on Thursday at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester. He told Lottery officials he planned to take a vacation and invest his winnings.

The Brew House also benefits from Connolly’s win, receiving a $1,200 bonus for selling the ticket.

Keno players have the option of selecting between 1 and 12 numbers to play from a field of numbers between 1 and 80. Prizes and odds of winning vary based on the number of spots played. For each Keno game, a total of 20 winning numbers are randomly selected. Playing Keno Bonus doubles the price of a wager and gives players a chance to multiply their prize 3, 4, 5 or 10 times if a multiplier number is drawn for that game.
