Cherokee Co. man sentenced to 16 years for attempted aggravated robbery

CHEROKEE CO., Kan. (KOAM) – Charles L. Amos, 63, was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to three counts of Attempted Aggravated Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.

According to authorities , on June 9, 2023, Amos was found siphoning fuel from a stolen van in rural Cherokee County when confronted by the owner of a stolen farm truck. Amos fired a shotgun at the truck’s owner and family before fleeing in another vehicle.

He was captured later that night in Oklahoma City, following a manhunt coordinated by local law enforcement and federal agencies.
