Los Angeles emerges as U.S.’s most generous city, Newman’s social experiment finds

Newman’s Own, Inc. has unveiled the results of its Generosity Index, a unique social experiment conducted through a “Pay What You Want” pizza truck tour across the nation. The initiative, which donated 100% of its proceeds to support children in need through the Newman’s Own Foundation, highlighted surprising trends in American generosity.

The tour’s findings revealed that Los Angeles emerged as the most generous city, with residents contributing an average of $5.54 per slice of pizza. This result underscores the city’s strong community spirit and commitment to charitable causes.

In addition to geographic generosity, the data showcased intriguing connections between pop culture and charitable giving. Taylor Swift fans, or Swifties, were identified as the most generous among fans of major artists. Swifties spent an average of $1 more per slice compared to fans of Olivia Rodrigo, reflecting Swift’s well-documented charitable efforts and her fans’ enthusiastic support for similar causes.

Sports fans also showed varied levels of generosity. Yankees supporters outspent Red Sox fans by 46% at the Newman’s Own pizza trucks stationed near baseball games. Additionally, University of Michigan fans were 50% more generous than their Ohio State counterparts.
