N.Y. Gov. Hochul launches $10M program to address food deserts, like the ones on Staten Island’s North Shore

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York is dedicating millions of dollars to expand healthy food options in underserved areas where families struggle to find fresh produce. On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new $10 million Food Access Expansion Grant Program, which will provide funding to support the development and expansion of supermarkets, food cooperatives, permanent farm stands and other retail food stores in food deserts across the state.
