Sheriff Dowdy criticizes new California ammo fee increase, calls it unconstitutional

NORTHSTATE, Calif. – The California Department of Justice (DOJ) is proposing to increase the Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check (SAEC) from one dollar to five. According to the California State Portal, Governor Gavin Newsom, joined by Attorney General Rob Bonta, signed multiple new measures into law including Assembly Bill 28, which efforts to generate $160 million annually by raising the SAEC on ammunition by four dollars.
