Shelter for unhoused people in Stockton delayed to spring 2025

(FOX40.COM) — An emergency shelter under construction in Stockton that would potentially serve one-third of the unhoused in the city has delayed its opening to next year.

The Pathways project was originally expected to open this fall, but it is now expected to open at the complex of St. Mary’s Community Services in spring 2025.

The delay was attributed by a representative to “normal delays with construction” in a call with FOX40.com.

Organizers say that the shelter, once finished, will have fewer barriers than other shelters, allowing pets and partners, as well as having storage for personal belongings.

The layout will also be comprised of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.

According to St. Mary’s, the shelter will have space for 288 people, along with common spaces and services that will include case management and resources to help people move to apartments or houses within six months.
