The 2024 Paralympics wrapped up Sunday and three Ohioans are coming home with new hardware.
By the numbers: The Buckeye State sent six athletes to the games and half of them medaled.
The winners:
🛶 Blake Haxton, of Columbus, earned bronze in the 200-meter canoe sprint, the same event in which he took silver at the Tokyo Games.
🏃🏿♀️ Brittni Mason, of Cleveland, won silver in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events.
- Now a five-time medalist, Mason previously earned two silver medals in 2020 and a gold in the mixed 4×100-meter universal relay.
🏃🏼♀️ Grace Norman, of Jamestown, about 40 miles southwest of Columbus, claimed gold for the second time in the paratriathlon. It’s her fourth total medal.
Zoom out: Team USA came in third in the medal race with a total of 105, up from 104 at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
- The U.S. trailed China and Great Britain, which earned 220 and 124, respectively.
