The Upstate is filled with various events this weekend, from cultural festivals to community gatherings to running marathons.

Joan Osborne in Greenville

Singer Joan Osborne will perform in the Gunter Theatre of the Peace Center in Greenville at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Joan Osborne broke through 25 years ago with the multi-platinum album Relish and single “One of Us. ”

Throughout her career, the seven-time Grammy nominee has explored various genres: pop rock, soul, R&B, blues, roots rock, gospel, funk, and country.

She is touring to support her latest CD, “Nobody Owns You.”

Barbecue competition

Pork, chicken, and beef barbecue will compete for the best dish at the 14th annual Mauldin SOOIE. BBQ Cook-Off will take place on Friday, Sept. 13, and Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Mauldin Cultural Center.

This free food-friendly barbecue competition will pit 25 chefs against one another to determine placings in five award categories alongside live music, fireworks, “Kid Zone” activities, and more at 101 E. Butler Road.
