MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Hurricane Francine is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico and the WKRG First Alert Storm Team predicts it to make landfall on Wednesday along the Louisiana Gulf Coast as a strong category 1 or weak category 2.
As the storm approaches, many facilities announced whether they’ll be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Meanwhile, some shelters will be open.

- The City of Mobile announced four shelters will be open during inclement weather on Wednesday.
- Shelter for Men and Women: Ryan’s Refuge at 554 South Craft Highway. Call 251-228-8454.
- Salvation Army at 1009 Dauphin St. Call 251-438-1625.
- Shelter for Women: McKemie Place. Call 251-287-2225 for address.
- Shelter for Men: Waterfront Mission at 279A N Washington Ave. Call 251-433-1847.
- The Saraland Police Department is opening a safehouse at 7794 Celeste Road at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
- Note: Shelter seekers must bring their own food, blankets, medications and toiletries.
- Note: No pets will be allowed unless they are service animals.
