Medical provider for Oklahoma County jail now says it will be ending its services

Turn Key Health, the health care provider for the troubled Oklahoma County jail has given the county jail trust notice that it will stop providing services in 30 days.

The move comes after weeks of debate by trust members over whether to continue using Turn Key’s services. Turn Key is blamed for what some call horrific conditions in the jail, especially the high rate of detainee deaths.

The trust voted on Monday to approve a new yearlong contract with Turn Key — over the objection of several residents and activists — as well as issue a request for proposals for a new provider and to hire an independent medical consultant to guide the trust.

Trustee the Rev. Derrick Scobey had moved twice not to stay with Turn Key Health, but his motions died for lack of a second. He also was the only trustee to vote against a new contract, comparing it to a woman staying with an abusive husband just to have a man in the house.
