There are a ton of hamburger options around the Augusta area, but who has the best? That question was answered in the annual Burger Battle on Monday at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta.
Nine different restaurants competed, with guests sampling each eatery’s and voting for their favorites based on their own criteria. About 400 people were in attendance, and the majority voted for Midtown Tavern to take home the belt.
“It feels great, we’re so excited about it,” said Midtown’s co-owner Maguire Welsh. “We love the contest. We were hoping, going into it, that we could pull it off and just happy that we did.”

Their concept for Monday night’s burger revolved around a strawberry-bacon preserve and pimento cheese. Welsh said the pimento cheese they use is his grandmother’s recipe. The burger will likely be featured as a special at the restaurant in the near future.
Other restaurants in the competition included Cucina 503, Brinkley’s Chop House, Edgar’s Grille, Abel Brown, Manny’s Sports Off Broad, Sheehan’s Irish Pub, Finch & Fifth, and Recteq.
