No lights or sounds: Spokane County Interstate Fair hosts Sensory Day

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Interstate Fair hosted its 5th annual Sensory Day on Tuesday to create a welcoming and supportive for all attendees.

For Sensory Day, the carnival games and rides ran without lights and sounds, to provide guests with a calm environment.

Jack Lonam is a home care aid and said events like Sensory Day help the people he serves feel comfortable and safe.

“I think it’s really important because it gives them a more safe space to come into,” he said.

Emelie Vanausdal also works as a home care aid and said it helps everyone in the community be able to participate in the fun.

“It’s catered to their needs, just like we get our needs catered to us almost daily,” said Vanausdal.
