Local environmental protection organization takes over land at Spencer Butte

EUGENE, Ore. – A local organization dedicated to protecting the environment has gained stewardship over more than 200 acres of land near Eugene’s Spencer Butte Park. The McKenzie River Trust works with landowners to protect and care for large chunks of land for fish, wildlife and water quality. With $1.1 million it received in funding, the trust secured 243 acres of land between the South Eugene Meadows and Spencer Butte Park in Eugene’s ridgeline area. With the new acquisition, the McKenzie River Trust has stewardship of 283 acres of land in the area.
