WooSox Notebook: Triple-A club endures lots of changes as final homestand begins at Polar

WORCESTER — Tyler McDonough found himself in a unique situation Tuesday.

After swinging and missing at a pitch and fouling off another in a WooSox road game on Aug. 11, the contest against the Syracuse Mets was suspended in the fifth inning due to weather.

The game resumed at Polar Park ahead of a regularly scheduled six-game series as McDonough was back at the plate to face an 0-2 count Tuesday afternoon. The left-handed hitter took a ball on his first pitch (against a new Syracuse pitcher) before swinging and missing at a sweeper for strike three.

Thirty days later, McDonough finally concluded his lengthy stint at the dish.

“I gotta say that’s probably my longest at-bat,” McDonough, 25, said. “It seemed pretty quick today but … it was weird, never started off an at-bat, 0-2, like that.

“That’s definitely the longest at-bat that I’ve ever had.”

The WooSox proceeded to score two (more) runs in the inning on a two-run single from Kristian Campbell and eventually beat the Mets, 11-4 , to wrap up the resumed game.
