Texas Tech Rodeo coach terminated for alleged misconduct

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Thursday, Texas Tech University terminated Texas Tech Rodeo coach Jerrad Hoffstetter.

The news shocked many who knew Hoffstetter, and on Friday, social media exploded with support, including the Cook’s Garage and Texas Tech Rodeo Facebook pages.

Jerrad Hofstetter has been the head Texas Tech Rodeo coach for the past six years. Throughout his coaching, he recruited over 100 students for the rodeo team for this upcoming fall semester before his termination.

In an interview with EverythingLubbock.com , Hofstetter explained that there was a misunderstanding regarding livestock kept on and off Texas Tech property. He said everyone was under full understanding that he had cattle kept on his property in quarantine due to trying to prevent the spreading of illness to other cattle. He said they even came out for weekly checks.

Hofstetter said he felt like he was being pushed out of his job for the past few years. He said this started with the change in the chair position of the Ag department.
