Man killed during NC armored truck robbery identified, deputies say

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man who died after what law enforcement says was the attempted robbery of an armored truck has been identified.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office says that around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday , deputies came to the parking lot of the Stoney Creek Village shopping center on 6307 Burlington Road in Whitsett after getting a report of an attempted robbery of a Brink’s truck.

While they were on the way to the scene, they were altered that there had been a shooting. At the scene, deputies found 26-year-old Devonte Eugene Scott of Albemarle, dead from a gunshot wound.

This was an isolated incident.

At the scene

A witness at the scene said they heard gunshots in the area and saw people running for cover.

“I was scared to go over there,” said a woman who was going to Food Lion to buy ice cream for her kids. “We moved to this area .. because we thought it would be safe, and it’s not.”

She was parked about 60 feet away from the ATM in her car when she heard the shots.
