Wichita mother sentenced for baby’s fentanyl death

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita mother was in court on Wednesday, where she was sentenced for the fentanyl death of her baby boy in October 2023.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said Wilma Presley, 36, was sentenced to 240 months (20 years) in prison. She pleaded guilty to distributing a controlled substance causing death and aggravated endangering a child, along with other drug crimes, on July 12.

The baby’s death happened on Oct. 31, 2023. Emergency crews rushed to a grocery store at Pawnee and Broadway after the mother of Kaiden McCullough, 1, noticed he was unresponsive.

EMS tried to revive the baby and rushed him to the hospital, but he died. The autopsy report said the boy died from “the toxic effects of fentanyl.”

According to the autopsy report, on the day of Kaiden’s death, he had been with his father in his father’s car. The report says he was returned to his mother before she went into the store. It goes on to say the mother thought Kaiden was sleeping, but at some point, she noticed he was unresponsive.
