Surveillance video captures fatal hit-and-run crash in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

A 74-year-old man was fatally struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The victim, Segundo Reina-Gaon, was crossing Ridge Boulevard in the crosswalk, west to east when he was struck at Bay Ridge Avenue just after 8:55 p.m. Wednesday.

He was hit by a white SUV traveling northbound on Ridge Boulevard.

The victim was pushed into a parked car as the SUV kept going. Several parked cars were damaged.

He was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.

Police were studying surveillance video of the fatal crash and used a drone as they pieced together what happened.

Residents in the area say accidents and reckless driving are far too common there.

In fact, Senator Andrew Gounardes posted on social media that he had talked with DOT officials just two days about safety concerns, just one block from where this hit and run happened.

“I stand on the curb, I don’t even step out until the light turns and then I look to make sure the car stops before I walk. Right over there they put these yield for pedestrians walking in the crosswalk signs, where maybe a month ago somebody was hit,” said Jeffrey Diamond, a neighbor.
